Pipeline Reopened

UKHTA, Northern Russia -- Russia started pumping gas through a northern pipeline Friday, the day after a huge explosion ripped open the pipe.

Rescue teams repaired the shattered section of pipeline within 18 hours of the blast early Thursday. "Gas started to flow from 8 a.m. and soon the system will begin to work normally," an official at Gazprom said.

The official from Gazprom, which runs the pipeline system, told Itar-Tass repairs had been completed and the damaged section had been replaced.
