Jospin Eyes Delors

PARIS () -- Socialist Lionel Jospin on Friday hailed ex-European Commission head Jacques Delors as a possible prime minister if he won France's presidential election, while conservative rival Jacques Chirac rallied the right behind him.

Jospin flatly ruled out disclosing cabinet choices before results of the second round election on May 7 are known, but said he was pleased Delors had left the door open to serving in his government should he emerge the victor. "This is a man for whom the French people have enormous respect," Jospin said of Delors in an interview on RTL radio.

Chirac, meanwhile, was basking in a broad display of unity on the Right ahead of a major rally Saturday just outside Paris, expected to draw 15,000 to 20,000 people.
