Winnie Wins Reprieve

JOHANNESBURG () -- Winnie Mandela won a reprieve Friday from having police study documents seized from her house and office in raids earlier this week in an investigation into alleged bribe-taking and influence-peddling.

The estranged wife of President Nelson Mandela, accompanied by their two daughters, attended the Rand Supreme Court hearing on the legality of police raids Wednesday on her Soweto compound and the office of a non-governmental organization she heads.

Justice B. Nugent postponed the hearing until March 14 at the request of both sides, meaning the items taken from Mrs. Mandela's house and the Coordinated Anti-Poverty Program office remain sealed.
