Kiev Student Kills Envoy From Israel

KIEV -- A university student confessed to killing an Israeli envoy who came to his apartment to complain about loud music, police said Monday.

Authorities said the 21-year-old man's confession convinced them the crime was not politically motivated.

"There was no political content to this incident,'' an Interior Ministry spokesman said Monday.

The suspect, whose name was not released, was arrested Sunday and charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of Shimon Feingold, who was an envoy of Sohnut, a quasi-governmental group helping immigrants to Israel.

Feingold was discovered dead in the stairwell of his Kiev apartment building just after 4 p.m. Saturday.

The student confessed to hitting Feingold after he complained of loud music. Police said the blow caused Feingold to slip and hit his head on a step.

In a separate incident, Israel asked Russia on Sunday to extradite a man who allegedly hired two Israeli detectives to murder three business rivals, Israeli police sources said.
