Iraq Said Ready to Pay

MOSCOW () -- Russian ultranationalist leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky said Wednesday that Iraq is ready to repay some $9 billion it owes Russia, and that Moscow is not bound by the United Nations sanctions against Baghdad.

Zhirinovsky, returning from a three-day visit to Baghdad during which he met Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, told a news conference that Russia is also suffering from the embargo.

"Iraq owes us money, almost $9 billion, and is ready to return it, so we are not bound by the blockade," he said on arrival at the airport.
