Zhirinovsky in Iraq

BAGHDAD () -- Russian ultranationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky met Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on Monday and put forward his idea of a coalition between Orthodox Christians and Moslems to confront the West.

"For three hours we discussed world and local problems very deeply and ... relations between the Orthodox Russian community and the Moslem community," Zhirinovsky told reporters.

Earlier Zhirinovsky said Moslems and Russians are friends, and their common enemy is the West. "I want to prevent confrontations between North and South. North is Russia, and South includes the Arab and Moslem worlds," he told Reuters. "We are friends. We are not enemies. Our general enemy is the West."
