U.S. Childcare Blasted

BEIJING () -- In an attempt to deflect accusations of abuse in its orphanages, China condemned the United States on Thursday for the guns, drugs and poverty that inflict suffering on U.S. children.

A lengthy report, released Thursday by the state-run Xinhua News Agency and scheduled to appear Friday in the People's Daily, is a response to a recent report by Human Rights Watch-Asia about systematic mistreatment of children in some of China's orphanages.

The article for People's Daily cites statistics from news media and U.S. government reports about harm to U.S. children from shooting deaths and injuries, child abuse, teen pregnancy, divorce, drugs, poverty and homelessness.
