Train Murderer Guilty

NEW YORK () -- Colin Ferguson, a Jamaican immigrant, has been found guilty of murdering six people in a shooting spree on a crowded commuter train, but will appeal against his conviction on the grounds that he was not mentally fit to stand trial, The New York Times reported.

Ferguson, who was found guilty Friday of murdering six commuters and trying to kill 19 others on the Long Island Rail Road on Dec. 7, 1993, dismissed his lawyers at the start of his trial, rejecting their proposed argument that he was not guilty by reason of insanity and conducted his own defense.

But on Saturday Ferguson, now facing a maximum sentence of 200 years in prison, called the two attorneys, William Kunstler and Ronald Kuby, and asked them to handle his appeal.
