Kazakh Investment Up

ALMATY, Kazakhstan () -- Direct private investment by U.S. companies in Kazakhstan totalled $1.5 billion in 1994, outstripping its giant neighbor Russia.

Oil giant Chevron accounts for about $700 million and the tobacco company Phillip Morris for $300 million of the total direct investments, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said at a meeting of producers and businessmen in Ust-Kamenogorsk on Friday.
