Key Syria Talks Set

JERUSALEM ( -- Israel said the start on Monday of another peace mission by U.S. envoy Dennis Ross could be the last chance to revive stalled talks with Syria.

"If [the Americans] view it as difficult or impossible, I don't think another opportunity will come along during this American administration," cabinet minister Yossi Beilin told Israeli army radio.

Beilin said Israel would ask Ross to deliver to Syria its long-standing demand for direct, high-level talks to break the deadlock over the future of the Golan Heights.

More than four years of negotiations have stalled over the scope and timing of an Israeli withdrawal from the area, which it captured in the 1967 Middle East war.
