Turkey Quake Kills 42

DINAR, Turkey () -- Hundreds of dazed residents wandered in the streets of a once buzzing Turkish market town on Monday, made homeless by a strong earthquake that killed at least 42 people and injured about 200.

A government minister has predicted a final death toll of about 100 from Sunday's quake in the southwestern town of Dinar.

The center of the town was scarred by pockets of rubble from apartment blocks and public buildings brought crumpling to the ground as if made of sand by the quake, which measured 6.0 on the Richter scale.

The Anatolian news agency said 4,000 houses had been destroyed and 1,000 others damaged.
