Langer Wins in Playoff

DUBLIN () -- At the European Open, Bernhard Langer sank a 70-foot eagle putt on the final hole to force a playoff and then made a 22-foot birdie putt on the second extra hole to snatch the European Open golf title from Englishman Barry Lane.

The 38-year-old German's superlative finish Sunday brought him his third European Tour victory of the year following wins in the British PGA and European Tournament Players events in May and June.

Also Sunday, Fred Funk won his second PGA Tour title of the year, closing with a 5-foot birdie putt for a one-stroke victory over Loren Roberts and John Morse in the Buick Challenge at Pine Mountain, Georgia.

Funk, who shot a 5-under-par 67 for a 16-under 272 total on Callaway Gardens' Mountain View Course Sunday, hit his 6-iron approach from 156 yards past the pin and made the winning putt after Morse missed a 16-foot birdie bid.
