Hijackers to Stand Trial

OSLO () -- Norway has agreed to extradite three Iranians to Russia by next month, to stand trial for the 1993 hijacking of an Aeroflot airliner to Oslo, the Justice Ministry said Thursday.

Justice Ministry spokesman Dagfinn Aanonsen said Russia had promised to fulfill Norway's conditions for the men's extradition, including a guarantees that they would not be executed.

The three men have been held in Norwegian jails since their arrest at the Gardermoen airport near Oslo on Sept. 15, 1993, on charges of hijacking a Tupelov-134.

The jetliner was forced to fly from Russia to Ukraine and then to Norway, where all 51 people aboard were released unharmed after negotiation.
