Disheartening Arrest

HARARE, Zimbabwe () -- An unemployed man caught selling human hearts for witchcraft rites was fined 400 Zimbabwe dollars ($50), court officials said Friday.

Joseph Landsberg, 45, pleaded guilty to offering portions of human hearts stolen from a hospital morgue for sale at 10,000 Zimbabwe dollars each.

Prosecutors said Landsberg was arrested with hearts that were sun-dried and packed in salt and corn meal in the town of Chinhoyi, 116 kilometers northwest of Harare. Two alleged accomplices working at the morgue at Harare's main hospital have pleaded innocent to charges of illegally removing body parts from the corpses of patients.
