Algeria Negotiations Set

ROME () -- Representatives of Algerian opposition parties, including Islamic fundamentalists, agreed Friday on conditions for negotiations with Algiers to end the three-year civil war.

The agreement includes lifting the ban on the fundamentalist Islamic Salvation Front and other crackdown measures. The accord by 11 representatives of opposition forces came after an all-night session sponsored in Rome by a Catholic Church activist group based in the Italian capital.

It marked the first time opposition groups including extremist forces had forged a common front in an approach to ending Algerian political violence.
