Violence Shocks Milan

MILAN, Italy () --Milan was in a state of shock on Sunday after a night of violent street disturbances wreaked havoc injuring 60 people in Italy's industrial capital. Clashes broke out on Saturday night as about 10,000 left-wing youths marched through central Milan protesting against the closure of a social center, police said. Most of those injured were police.

At least 25 demonstrators were detained after the incidents, among the most violent in Milan since the 1970s, when the country was rocked by industrial and political unrest.

"The urban guerrillas are back, fear in Milan," read the headline on the Milan daily Corriere della Sera.
