Twaddler Wins Seat

COPENHAGEN, Denmark () -- He promised to support rights of impotent men, put God back in churches and improve the weather. That was all it took for Jacob Haugaard to win a seat in Denmark's new parliament.

"It's incredible that I got elected on this twaddle," Haugaard told a Danish newspaper after winning a parliament seat in Denmark's national elections.

His first task as legislator was meeting Queen Margrethe II on Thursday to state which party he would accept to lead the new government as no majority cabinet can be formed after Wednesday's vote. Sporting his trademark tailored, three-piece suit made of coffee sack cloths, Haugaard showed up to see the monarch bearing flowers and wearing a multicolored tie, a large gray hat and a long brown leather coat. His refusal to state which coalition bloc he supported was categorical: "I didn't side with anyone, not even with myself."

A popular musician, a stand-up comedian and an actor, Haugaard, 42, heads the Party of Deliberate Work-shy Elements.
