Tutsis Take Revenge

KIGALI, Rwanda () -- UN soldiers are being dispatched to southeast Rwanda after reports of reprisal attacks against ethnic Hutus by the Tutsi-led government army, the UN military command said Friday.

UN relief officials also said Friday that Hutus are apparently attacking Rwandan army positions in the southeast from guerrilla bases in neighboring Tanzania.

"We have had reports of revenge atrocities during the last two months. We think it would be a good decision to deploy more troops in this sector," said UN spokesman Pierre Mehu. A company of 100 Australian and Canadian troops will be in place Saturday, and they will be joined by a battalion of several hundred Tunisian soldiers early next month, Mehu said.
