North Korean Godzilla

TOKYO () -- A North Korean version of "Godzilla" believed to have been produced by new leader Kim Jong Il is to be released in Japan as a video early next year. The film, made in 1985, depicts a Godzilla-like monster hero called "Pulgasary" that protects farmers against soldiers by eating cannons and weapons.

The film was directed by Shin Sang-ok, a South Korean, who along with his wife was kidnapped in the 1970s and taken the Communist North to make movies for Kim Jong Il, known as a movie enthusiast. Shin escaped in 1986.
