New Holiday Decreed

MOSCOW () -- President Boris Yeltsin has signed a decree making Dec. 12, the date Russia's new constitution was passed in a referendum last year, a state holiday.

The new Constitution Day brings the number of Russian state holidays to nine.

The anniversary of the October 1917 revolution, Nov. 7, is no longer a holiday, although the country's stores and offices have the right to choose whether to work or not.
