Greece Warns Albania

ATHENS () -- Greece on Thursday protested strongly to Albania following the conviction and sentencing of five ethnic Greeks in Albania on charges of spying for Athens, as tensions between the two Balkan neighbors soared.

Greece also warned that it would step up retaliatory measures against Albania until the five men, who received sentences ranging from six years to eight years Wednesday, were freed.

Greece has not disclosed what further measures it might take, but so far it has expelled about 50,000 Albanian illegal immigrants since the trial began on Aug. 15.
