Grain Harvest Delayed

MOSCOW () -- Russia's grain harvest is lagging behind, a news agency said Wednesday. The report said 81 percent of the fields have been harvested so far, yielding 69.5 million metric tons (76.5 million short tons) of grain as compared to 82.9 million metric tons last year.

Itar-Tass said the harvest is going slowly this year because of shortages of fuel and spare parts on many farms and because it took longer this year for grain to ripen. Russia harvested 99 million metric tons last year.
