Gilford Golf Triumph

UCKFIELD, England () -- England's David Gilford gave one of the finest displays of the golfing year to win the European Open by five strokes Sunday.

The quietest man on the European tour achieved his biggest victory when he fired a closing 67 to finish on a 13-under-par total of 275.

The U.S. Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal shared second place with Italian Costantino Rocca of Italy. The Spaniard closed with a 69 while Rocca shot a a 7070.

Gilford, winner of the Tenerife Open in February, now stands fifth in this season's money list and tops the Ryder Cup points table after two qualifying events.
