Flood Aid Pledged

MOSCOW () -- The Russian government pledged 1.3 billion rubles ($540,000) Thursday to help victims of flooding that killed at least three people around the Pacific city of Vladivostok.

The government press service said in a statement Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin had ordered the Finance Ministry to release the necessary funds for reconstruction work.

As well as the three dead, 15 people were missing after torrential rain swept away homes and bridges around Vladivostok, in what officials said Wednesday was the worst flooding in decades.
