Africa Wins Track Cup

LONDON () -- On a chilly but mercifully dry English autumn afternoon, the African track and field team ran to a repeat win in the World Cup, held Sunday at Crystal Palace.

The African squad, champions in Cuba in 1992 and anchored by the Nigerian Sunday Bada, 25, finished with 116 points. Britain was second with 111 points and the Americas third with 95.

Europe, inspired by Russian Irina Privalova who won the 400 meters as a late replacement for France's Olympic champion Marie-Jose Perec, won the Women's Cup.

The European women scored 111 points. The Americas were second with 98 followed by Germany with 79.
