Russian Inks NHL Deal

ANAHEIM, California () -- Defenseman Oleg Tverdovsky, the second overall pick in the National Hockey League draft, signed a three-year contract with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Financial terms were not announced.

Speaking Monday on a conference call from Boston, where he is attending the NHL's annual congress, Ducks general manager Jack Ferreira said the parties had reached an agreement.

As Tverdovsky still has two years on his contract with Krylja Sovetov of Russia, the agreement with the Ducks allows him to leave without the NHL team having to pay any fee to Krylja. Those fees will instead be paid by the International Ice Hockey Federation.
