Protests Support Serbs

MOSCOW () -- Waving Communist flags and nationalist banners, a crowd of about 60 people gathered outside the U.S. Embassy late Thursday to protest American involvement in the NATO bombings of rebel Serb positions in Bosnia.

Several anti-Yeltsin slogans were also visible, and a number of protesters berated the half-dozen Russian militia officers guarding the embassy.

On Aug. 5, American warplanes took part in a NATO air strike against Bosnian Serb positions near Sarajevo, after Serb forces had seized heavy weapons held under UN safekeeping.

The Russian government gave its support to the August strike, and has cut all diplomatic contacts with the Bosnian Serbs, incurring the wrath of nationalists' for "betraying" fellow
