Pakistan eyes Planes

ISLAMABAD () -- Defense Minister Aftab Shaaban Meerani was quoted Thursday as saying Pakistan might buy Russian or French fighter planes if the United States, seeking to change Islamabad's nuclear policy, fails to deliver contracted F-16s.

The United States cut off all military aid to Pakistan in 1990 on suspicions it was developing nuclear weapons. Pakistan, which denies the charge, says Washington must deliver the F-16s or repay the $658 million Islamabad has already paid for them.

Meerani said he would visit Russia soon to discuss the possible purchase of MiG-29 and Su-27 fighters
