Losing Coach Fired

MINNEAPOLIS () -- The Minnesota Timberwolves fired head coach Sidney Lowe, who has directed them to a 20-62 record and to a fifth-place finish in the Midwest Division of the National Basketball Association last season.

Last year, only the Dallas Mavericks (13-69) had fewer wins than the Timberwolves. No successor was named after Wednesday's announcement.

Lowe, 33, was named interim head coach of the club in January 1993, replacing Jimmy Rodgers after the team stumbled to a 4-23 start.
