Tonya Banned for Life

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado -- The U.S. Figure Skating Association finally got its chance to pronounce judgment on Tonya Harding, and the verdict was harsh. She was stripped Thursday of the national championship she won Jan. 8 in Detroit and was banned from the association for life. The unanimous decision by a five-member disciplinary panel was the most severe penalty ever levied by the association. Harding's actions surrounding the Jan. 6 attack on Nancy Kerrigan "evidence a clear disregard for fairness, good sportsmanship and ethical behavior," the panel said. Harding has 30 days to appeal the decision, but her attorney, Bob Weaver, indicated that was unlikely.
