Romania Goes Plastic

BUCHAREST -- Romania will launch its first credit card operation in September, the first step in a pay-by-plastic program coordinated by Visa International, a banking official said.

"According to our plans, we will carry out the first credit card acceptance operation in September," said Ionel Burciu, official at Banca Romana de Comert Exterior SA, Romania's leading foreign trade bank. "Foreign companies or individuals will be able to use credit cards to withdraw cash or make payments here starting September."
