Prince Edward Gets Offer From Estonia

LONDON -- Royalists in Estonia have asked Prince Edward to be their king, the Sunday Telegraph reported.

Describing Edward as a "young British prince much admired by Estonians," the letter says, "we would be most honored if you would accept this rare request," the paper reported.

"Edward is perfect -- young, royal, artistic and talented. We admire his Royal Highness Prince Edward enormously," the letter continued. "We also admire Britain, its monarchy, democracy and culture."

The Royalist Party holds about 10 percent of Estonia's parliament.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said Prince Edward becoming King of Estonia was "a charming idea but a rather unlikely one."

The Sunday Telegraph said the idea was not without precedent, and pointed to a Danish prince becoming king of Norway.

The letter offered a tantalizing incentive to Edward: "Estonian newspapers are a lot nicer and more respectful to the British Royal dynasty than the English media," it said.
