Mason Takes Ope

GLENEAGLES, Scotland -- England's Carl Mason, 41, birdied the last hole at the King's Course for a one-stroke victory in the Scottish Open and a place in next week's British Open at Turnberry.

As Mason held off overnight leader Peter Mitchell, he recorded only his second win in 20 years on the tour Saturday, his first having been in February. Mason twice chipped in and then made the final birdie for his 15 under par total of 265. His closing 68 also earned him a spot in December's Johnnie Walker world championship in Jamaica.
