Italian Deputies Braw

ROME -- Stewards had to separate brawling Italian deputies in Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's alliance on Thursday during a chaotic climax to the government's rout over a decree limiting magistrates' powers of arrest.

Two deputies, Francesco Formenti of the League and Giuseppe Lazzarini of Berlusconi's Forza Italia, had to be pulled apart after they pushed and shoved each other in the Chamber of Deputies.

The chaos erupted with League protests during a speech by a Forza Italia deputy on the hugely unpopular decree, which Berlusconi was forced to withdraw Tuesday in a humiliating reversal after a revolt by his coalition partners.
