Grain Deal Struck

MOSCOW () -- Russian agricultural officials and regional leaders have struck a deal to avert a threatened boycott by farmers of domestic grain sales, a senior Agriculture Ministry official said Tuesday.

The deal, reached at a meeting last week in Rostov-on-Don, involved setting sharply higher recommended prices for 1994 state grain purchases, said ministry official Leonid Kholod.

But he said the recommendations did not fully account for rising production costs and it was not immediately clear how farmers would react.
