CSA Logs Profit

PRAGUE -- The Czech national air carrier, Ceskoslovenske Aerolinie a.s., or CSA, has posted pre-tax profits of 16 million crowns ($567,000) in May against a loss of 55.7 million crowns for the same month last year. The positive result was CSA's first profitable month since last September, CSA spokesman Milos Adamek said.

In a statement to journalists, CSA said it reduced its losses for the first five months of the year by some 50 percent compared to the same period in 1993. "It is also important that with increasing costs for air operations CSA managed not to exceed (its) reduced budget, by compensating in other cost areas," the statement said.

CSA posted a loss of 1.5 billion crowns in 1993 after a 200 million crown loss in 1992.
