O.J. Pleads Not Guilty

LOS ANGELES -- Wearing a blue suit and blank stare, O.J. Simpson pleaded not guilty to murdering his ex-wife and her male friend. Staring morosely into space, seemingly drained, the football Hall of Famer winced Monday as a judge read the name Nicole Brown Simpson from one of the two murder charges. At a news conference after the hearing, lead prosecutor Marcia Clark said Simpson acted alone and had intended to commit the June 12 murders. At another news conference, defense attorney Robert Shapiro implied that Simpson's flight from police who were about to arrest him Friday, which led to a freeway chase, was part of a suicide, not escape, attempt. "He was going to the graveside of his wife with the intention of being with her," said Shapiro.
