Calloway Suffers Stroke

NEW YORK -- Cab Calloway, the American scat-singing big band legend, was in intensive care Wednesday after suffering a stroke. Calloway, 86, was stricken Sunday at his suburban New York City home, the Daily News newspaper reported. Calloway made his name as a bandleader in the 1930s with his signature song, "Minnie the Moocher," which sold millions of records. Calloway worked on the film "Stormy Weather" and won acclaim for his portrayal of "Sportin' Life" in Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess." He starred with Pearl Bailey in an all-black version of "Hello, Dolly" and with John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd in the movie, "Blues Brothers.
