Bonk Waits, Bruins Sign Kasatonov

NEW YORK -- John Ferguson, Ottawa's director of player personnel, says the Florida Panthers would be crazy not to select Czech center Radek Bonk at first pick in Tuesday's entry draft. So look for the Panthers to take Bonk over Windsor defenseman Ed Jovanovski, making Bonk the third European-born player selected first overall. He would follow Quebec's Mats Sundin (1989) and Tampa Bay's Roman Hamrlik (1992) in that distinction. n The Boston Bruins have signed free-agent defenseman and former Soviet hockey star Alexei Kasatonov. Kasatonov, 34, played for 12 years on the Central Red Army team. He represented the former Soviet Union in eight World Championships and played on Olympic teams that won gold medals in 1984 and 1988 and a silver medal in 1980. (Sporting News, AP)
