Bossi Snubs Berlusconi

n ROME () -- The federalist Northern League stayed away from talks with media tycoon Silvio Berlusconi on Italy's new government Wednesday and the party's tough-talking leader Umberto Bossi threatened to quit negotiations altogether. Bossi, who is pressing for the League to hold the powerful post of interior minister in Berlusconi's planned coalition cabinet, said he wanted a "pause for reflection" in the process of forming a government. "I am going ahead," Berlusconi told reporters, as the meeting went ahead without Bossi. "I was given a mandate by (President Oscar Luigi) Scalfaro and the electorate and I intend to live up to it."
