U.S. Astronauts: Culture-Shocked

COCOA BEACH, Florida -- Living conditions are less than ideal for two Americans training near Moscow for a flight to the Mir space station, the chief of NASA's astronaut corps has said. Robert "Hoot" Gibson said Norman Thagard and Bonnie Dunbar are "having a little bit of an uphill battle" after moving to Russia in March. Gibson blamed Russia's faltering economy for the fact that Thagard and Dunbar are living in spartan apartments and finding simple necessities such as a clothes dryer hard to come by.
