Hand Driers Are Dirty

Ninety-five percent of public washroom hand driers tested emitted bacteria which could cause food poisoning or broncho-pneumonia, a British study shows.

The survey said the number of disease-causing bacteria on a person's hands could be multiplied by more than 600 percent by a hot air hand drier.

Of the devices tested, 63 percent indicated faecal contamination.

The study said linen towels reduced bacteria on people's hands by more than 40 percent and paper hand towels by nearly 60 percent.
