Dundee United Into Quarters

GLASGOW -- Defender Brian Welsh struck his second goal of the season to carry Dundee United into a Scottish Cup quarterfinal against Airdrie on March 12.

United, cruelly denied a place in the last eight by Motherwell's injury time equalizer last month, secured the victory it felt it deserved first time around thanks to Welsh's 67th minute goal Tuesday.

The big center-back scored with his 'wrong' foot, his right, to give United a 1-0 win in the fourth round replay.

Celtic, watched by a meager crowd of 10,882, scored a 1-0 premier division victory over Kilmarnock, John Collins hammering a 25-meter free kick in off the defensive wall in the final minute.

In Holland on Tuesday, Heerenveen goalkeeper Carlo l'Ami dashed Feyenoord Rotterdam's hopes of increasing the pressure on first division leader Ajax Amsterdam with several spectacular saves in their 0-0 draw.

Both teams found the back of the net -- but the goals were ruled out for offside.

The result left Feyenoord in second place in the table on 36 points, four behind Ajax.
