Devils Beat Canadiens

Stephane Richer scored the 300th goal of his career to help the New Jersey Devils defeat the Montreal Canadiens 5-2 and crack the 100-point mark for the first time in franchise history.

Tuesday's win gave the Devils (45-21-11) 101 points for the season and extended New Jersey's unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-1). The Devils remained tied for first in the Atlantic division and the Eastern Conference with the New York Rangers, who were 4-3 winners over the Philadelphia Flyers.

In Detroit, Sergei Fedorov scored twice and Ray Sheppard scored his 50th goal to help Detroit move two points ahead of idle Toronto and into sole possession of first place in the Central Division and Western Conference with a 6-2 defeat of the Hartford Whalers.
