Canadiens Save Pride by a Mere 24 Seconds

MONTREAL -- Gilbert Dionne's goal with 24 seconds remaining gave the Montreal Canadiens a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators.

Dionne gathered in a loose puck in the slot and put a low shot past Craig Billington as the Canadiens avoided the humiliation of being swept at home by Ottawa this season. The Senators had won the two previous games at the Forum this season. Paul DiPietro had tied it 2-2 at 10:27 of the final period.

Stars 5, Panthers 4. In Miami, Dave Gagner scored twice as Dallas took control with four consecutive goals in the second period and the Stars held off Florida in the third period.

Defenseman Doug Zmolek and winger Russ Courtnall also scored in the second period as Dallas turned a 2-1 deficit into a 5-2 lead.

Paul Cavallini scored Dallas' first-period goal.

Canucks 3, Maple Leafs 2. At Vancouver, British Columbia, Murray Craven's goal with 63 seconds left in overtime gave the Canucks a victory after Toronto's Wendell Clark had tied the game with his 41st goal only 27 seconds before the end of regulation time.

Craven won it with a goal off assists by Pavel Bure and Gerald Diduck.

Bure scored his league-leading 54th goal and Cliff Ronning added a power-play goal later in the second period as Vancouver built a 2-1 lead.
