Tashkent Cuts Taxes

The Central Asian republic of Uzbekistan announced tax cuts on Friday to stimulate agriculture and the production of consumer goods.

The former Soviet republic also unveiled new free market reforms for agriculture, which produces more than 4 million tons of raw cotton annually and employs 65 percent of the work force.

The cabinet decreed a 50 percent cut in all taxes for threeyears on new rural enterprises engaged in agriculture or manufacturing consumer goods.
