Sludge Hunt Continues

Rescuers using sniffer dogs called in earthmovers to help dig into a drying cake of toxic sludge on Friday in a hunt for bodies buried since a gold mine dam burst and killed at least 13.

Ten more people listed as missing were accounted for as alive and well in Virginia in the Orange Free State on Friday, nearly three days after their homes were engulfed by a giant wave of toxic sludge.

Forty-one people are now unaccounted for since the Harmony gold mine dam burst above the Merriespruit suburb on Tuesday night.

Officials in Virginia have estimated the cost of the disaster as high as 100 million rand ($30 million).
