Shuttle Set to Return

Five U.S. astronauts and a Russian cosmonaut finished science operations aboard the space shuttle Discovery on Thursday and prepared for their return to Earth.

Weather forecasts for landing at their Florida base were not ideal, however, and there was the possibility that Discovery would have to use its alternative landing site in California.

The 60th shuttle mission was the first to include a cosmonaut among the crew. Sergei Krikalev, a veteran of two stays at the Russian Mir space station, was aboard Discovery to kick off a new era of cooperation with the United States.
