Peruvian Premier Quits

President Alberto Fujimori has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Alfonso Bustamante, who quit over a law linked to a sensitive human rights case, an official in the president's office said.

Government sources said Wednesday that Bustamante had resigned over Congress' passage and Fujimori's enactment of a law that altered Supreme Court procedures in cases of jurisdiction.

The law, widely criticized as interference in the Supreme Court's autonomy, was adhered to by the high court last Friday, enabling officers accused of the slayings of nine students and a professor to be tried in a military court.
