Pavin Takes LA Open

Corey Pavin out-putted Fred Couples in a final-round head-to-head duel to win the $1 million Los Angeles Open golf tournament by two strokes.

Pavin had four birdies and one bogey on the Riviera Country Club course for a 3-under-par 68 and a winning total of 13-under-par 271. Couples, who started Sunday with a one stroke lead over Pavin, could do no better than even-par 71 for 11-under 273.

Pavin earned $180,000 for his 11th career title on the PGA Tour but first since beating Couples in a playoff at the Honda Classic almost two years ago.
